June 29, 2025 - Alaska
Anchorage Zoo

Today's big event:  taking the girls to the Anchorage Zoo.  This is our second time.  I remember it being a good zoo.

Traveling in style!

This is what you expect to see in Alaska:  a Polar Bear.

The Polar Bear decided to show us what he could do in the water.

It was amazing to see how graceful and smoothly the big animal moved through the water.  Polar bears are excellent swimmers.

A big Bald Eagle perched on a post.

Two Black Bears getting fed.

A very rare Snow Leopard.

The snow leopard is native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia, ranging from eastern Afghanistan, the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau to southern Siberia, Mongolia and Western China. It inhabits alpine and subalpine zones at elevations of 9,800–14,800 ft, but also lives at lower elevations in the northern part of its range.

It is regarded as a monotypic species. It forms a sister group with the tiger and the genetic divergence is estimated to have occurred 4.62 to 1.82 million years ago.

I think this is the first live porcupine I've ever seen.

I'm surprised they allow visitors to get so close to the porcupine.  Wouldn't it be easy for the porcupine to shoot its barbed quills through the fence?

In the petting zoo, demonstrating how to pet the goat.

Not having it.

That goat is spooky!

Break time!

Mush!

Moose with big antlers.

Too much excitement at the Zoo;  the girls crash on the long ride home.
